Baby Wipes

Have you ever reached for a container or package of baby wipes and wondered what is in it and is it really safe to be wiping all over your child and yourself? If so, you are not alone and there are ways to make wipes that are much safer and healthier for you and your family. Listed below is a Recipe that is easy to make and much healthier than store bought wipes.

Ingredients

1/8 c             Vegetable,  Apricot or Sunflower oil.

1/8 c             Baby Shampoo (Natural  baby shampoo is the best. It contains no sodium lauryl sulfates, parabens, harsh preservatives or grapefruit seed extracts that can be irritating to your child's sensitive skin and body parts).

1 1/2 - 2c      Water.

8 Drops         Lavender essential oil (Lavender is a natural anti-bacterial and smells terrific).

5 Drops         Tea Tree essential oil (Helps to reduce mold and is also an anti bacterial).

1 package     Blue Shop Towels. Scott shop towels work really well and are disposable. Cut  the towels in half to make short rolls or cut them into quarters and place them in a recycled baby wipe container. You can also use wash clothes or flannel clothes.

1 Recycled    Baby Wipe Container to put wipes in. Around container is suitable if you want the wipes to dispense from the middle. A rectangular container works well if you want to remove wipes from the top.

Preparation

Step 1.To prepare the the liquid for the wipes use a glass jar with a tight fitting lid. Mix the vegetable oil and the essential oils together gently. Then add the water shake the oils with water.

Step 2. Gently mix in the baby shampoo. If you shake to vigorously it bubbles up and gets foamy.

Step 3. Pour over a half-length roll of paper towels with the cardboard removed in some kind of round plastic container. Wipes will easily dispense from the center of the roll. Scott shop towels are recommended for this preparation method because they are more durable, and they fit (barely) into a "Diaperene" container and dispense nicely from the center pull hole. If you choose the rectangular diaper container cut the shop towels into quarters and place them into the container and pour liquid over them.
